For my individual investigation, I took the opportunity to revamp and make a few examples for a current project that my Art 1 students work on in the first couple weeks of the semester. After learning the elements and principles of art, the practice their vocabulary by creating a collage. Typically, they have always done this with analog materials, and really seem to like it because they can practice the application of these new terms in a low risk setting (many have very limited drawing/painting experience at this point). Recently, I have had a few students per semester request to do a digital collage. Last week during our collage project, I wanted to work on something more personal. So, for this final project, I decided to revisit the collage method and create a digital collage with my students and their first project in mind. I created a series where each piece could potentially stand on its own, but also work well together, to showcase this option for some of my students who have a bit more experience. I played with contrast of vintage photographs and present day digital media both in Photoshop and Procreate- both of which my students have access to at school. I think of these ladies as Donut Goddesses, something lighthearted that I think my students will enjoy, and for them to see an example of using a simple object and really making it a statement of their own. I also worked to incorporate some of the elements and principles that my students learn for this project such as pattern, movement, balance, color, contrast, etc.
