Ballpoint pen and wood. 23" diameter.
Bees are some of the hardest working organisms our planet is graced to have. Upon the start of my Portfolio Review course, I purchased myself a hand casted worker bee ring to wear every day on my dominant hand of which I create my art with. I provided myself with a simple reminder to push myself as hard as I could to make high quality art for my Admission Portfolio to be reviewed. As I aspired to be like the worker bee, I began to feel overwhelmed with the amount of talent I needed to be able to display. In ballpoint pen, an unforgiving medium, I created a gesture drawing of my right hand with my bee ring to exhibit controlled chaos- which was true to how I felt about being in my Portfolio Review course. The composition of my hand is static as a demonstration of being overworked to the point of feeling like you are giving your all but remaining at a standstill. Metaphorically, the hand is cut out of its comfortable habitat and placed on top of a never-ending round piece of wood, going against the grain. |
