An exercise I often turn to in order to feed my creativity is ABC Brainstorm, where I list the entire alphabet and come up with a word for each letter. This can follow a theme or be completely random. From there, I select at least three of the words and begin to build concepts off of then. For this particular piece of art, my words were “valley”, “cow”, and “harp”. I began exploring the cow as a character and gave her a personality, and if she were in a valley, chances are she would be playing the harp in this world. Hydrangea, as I named her, is surrounded by vines with blooming flowers and draping bleeding heart stems. Every element of Hydrangea’s valley are cheerful and inviting as she plays her music, sending her love into the crisp Midwestern air. |
